Established Foundation: Kingdom work, whether as a Kingdom company owner or Kingdom career, must first be established with the foundation that only the King can create. As hard as I have tried to establish a foundation pleasing to Him, I have fallen short. Psalm 90 is one of my favorites and most powerful in my life. The psalm ends with “Establish the work of our hands Lord, yes establish the work of our hands.” I call it the establishment clause.
Too often however I have cried out to the King, using this very psalm as my prayer; usually when the business is not going as planned or when doubt arises about the future or the direction we are heading toward. I have also prayed this psalm in earnest at the beginning of the venture, whether it is a product/service decision; a new opportunity or just a change in direction because of circumstances that I did not foresee. But seldom do I wait; to listen for the still small voice to know if this is truly the foundation the King wants to establish. Plans established on the wrong foundation will soon go astray.
How depressing! Yet, the good news is that regardless of our lack of patience, our stubbornness or our “get it done” mentality; God is still fully committed to establishing the foundation. It isn’t as if He walks away from the deal because we failed to get it right in the beginning. Often the re-establishment of the Kingdom foundation along the way makes it stronger, better and more aligned with His will than when we started. Why? Because in the process of surrender lies the power of transformation. God is in the business of both establishing the work of our hands and using the process to transform us into the likeness of His son.
When we truly grasp the love that the Father has for us; the love that gave us a Redeemer; the love that gives us a Comforter and King; then we can truly grasp the fact that even when we started wrong, He can make it right. The establishment clause for our work and our careers is not only a prayer at the start, but a prayer for every day of our lives. We can come to Him, daily, and ask that He would establish the work of our hands this day- one day at a time.
What would happen if Kingdom leaders truly allowed the King to establish the work of our hands every day? What impact would it have on our sales, costs, customers or employees? That foundation is one that would allow us to “seek first the Kingdom” allowing the King to add ALL OTHER THINGS. It is in our best interest to let Him establish the work of our hands.
“Heavenly Father, may your favor rest upon us this day. Establish the work of our hands. Yes establish the work of our hands that we may build upon your Kingdom foundation. Thank you for your love and your desire for us to rest in your favor daily, that we might sing for joy and be glad. Amen.”
